Hi Lois,

Don't think they are related to my McPherson's.  Good luck.
James and Catherine had 8 children.  She disappears sometime after the birth of the last one in 1891 born possibly in Springhill.

My mother and family from Springhill Robert McPherson and wife Catherine. Catherine died in Childbirth around 1903 I believe.  They had 11 children.   Are these relatives of your family?   Lois Thompson

Hi Catherine,

Thank you for that.  Where did you find that information?  The parents named confirm my information re them.  Their names are all I have other than they came from the Inverness area of Scotland.

I have seen the family mentioned in a Springhill directory circa 1905 as living in Springhill but nothing after that.  At that time, Catherine (wife) was not mentioned but I can not find any death record/cemetery info re her.  I know that 3 of the children ended up in the Vancouver area.  My gr mother was Mary McLeod McPherson (already out west in 1901) and I knew her very well as a child growing up in Vancouver.  Lizzie and Ellen came west later.  Other than these 3, I haven't had much luck tracking down the others.

James was a miner/engineer for a long time in Pictou Co. at the Vale Colliery but he was not a miner when he was in Springhill.  He was about 53 when they were there.

Thanks again for your reply.  Thanks in advance for anything you can dig up re these guys!

This family didn't seem to stay in Springhill. As I found no references to any of them there.Do you suppose they could of gone to the States? not in the 1911 census unless the census taker left them out.,I'll check again.,

Does anyone have knowledge of the James McPherson family who shows up on the 1901 census as follows:

Cumberland County Census 1901
1901 Census of Canada Page Information
District:      NS CUMBERLAND (#30)
Subdistrict:      Springhill (PD 24) V Page 11
Springhill, family 6096:
McPherson, James, head, 53, b. 1847,
dau Ellen, 26; dau Lizie, 11; son William, 17; son John Thomas, 13, son Thomas, 9.
There was no record of wife Catherine

6096      SPRINGHILL A       96      MCPHERSON      WILLIAM            SON            17      23      05      1883

They were from Thorburn and showed there in the 1881 census.  It is possible that wife Catherine died between 1881 and 1991 census but unsure.

Thanks for any information.
