Hi there! I am researching my family tree and have found a great grandmother who was supposedly born in Springhill. I have been unable to find any records of her. I am new at computers and have been unable to open any of the census files at Nova Scotia Genealogy. She was, probably, Catholic, but I find the records at St. John the Baptist don't go back far enough and I am getting frustrated. Her name was Esther Rosalie Pire, born about April 8,1889 and she probably didn't live here long. She shows up in the 1901 census as a boarder at St. Annes Academy in Victoria,B.C. I believe her mother's name was Palmyer Pire and I have no info on her father. If anyone could help with information I would  VERY much appreciate it. Thanks

Robin you will find there can be a lot of frustration while searching your family roots. There is also a lot of joy Smiley

You spell Pire,"Pire", but the census takers can spell it many ways. So you also have to consider different name spellings in your search.

Pyre-Pier-Pare-Pierre-Peer-Pear- to name a few.....

It probably is a derivitive of the name La Pierre, or St. Pierre.

Family search at the LDS shows in 1881 these are the Pires that lived in Nova Scotia. Most of the Pires are out west in Canada.
