Spence Family History

I am looking to contact anyone with information about the family of John W Spence who died in Springhill in 1917.

I believe his DOB may have been 28 Apr 1843 in Joggins.  In particular, any information about his parents, whom I believe to have been Samuel & Ellen (or Ellenor) Spence.

I believe Samuel Spence's parents may have been Ebenezer Spence & Margaret Merriam...has anyone come across these names?

In addition, I am looking for any information on a Deborah Spence who married Matthew Pettigrew in 1843; in particular, I am looking for Deborah's parents, to see if there is a connection between Deborah Spence and John and Samuel Spence.

Deborah (Spence) Pettigrew was the mother of Ann Almira Pettigrew who married John W Spence.

Any info, suggestions, hints would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi Cathy,
Thanks for this info.
I have a copy of the Barnhill notes on the Pettigrews that are held in the CCGS workroom in Amherst - is your source the same, or different, as if different, I'd be interested to know if there is additional information available?  I'm very interested in the relationship between Deborah Spence Pettigrew and the other Spences (as there are a lot of Spence, Rector, Pettigrew marriages).  I'm also curious to know if you have additional data about Ellen Rector, or about Ebenezer and Margaret Spence.  I'm trying to figure out if Ebenezer and Margaret were ever in NS, and if not, at what point and from where their son Samuel came from.  Samuel would be my GGGG grandfather (my line would be through my mom, Teresa Spence Johnson - all Spences: Kenneth, Harmon, William, John W, Samuel, Ebenezer...

Thanks again for your time.

My apologies!  It's been a long day, and on reading your note again it is clear that Samuel & Deborah Spence were siblings.  That's wonderful.

Do you have more on this family group?

Thanks very, very much!

the info re:marriage of angelina & John w Spence is not correct , the husband was john N Spence 22/3/1873.
I am unable to find a birth certificate for William Mariner Spence  son of John W and Ann Spence in 1873. I do have a birth for John Mariner Spence 22/3/1873 same parents.

Could they be the same person?
