Looking for any information on the family of Andrew Scott.  His wife?
One of his daughter's - a Margaret Jane Scott b. 29th of Jan 1866 married to Edward Richard Lunn.  Her mother was MaryAnn Reardon.

Was Andrew Scott a miner?  Reardon family?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

This is what I have been able to find on Andrew Scott. I didn't have any luck with any information on Reardon.
This information comes from www.novascotiagenealogy.com
Andrew Scott married Mary Ann ? in 1863 in Amherst.
Child: Margaret b. 29 Jan 1866 in Parrsboro
      Father's occupation: farmer
      residence: River Phillip
Registration year 1866, Book 1805, Page 25, Number 410
This is the only place that I found Mary Ann. Is it possible that she died in childbirth or shortly after.
It appears that at some point Andrew married Helen/Ellen Dunphy. Two different marriage dates are recorded on the documents for two more of his children. I found these on the genealogy site:
1. Sarah Elizabeth Scott b. 20 April 1872 in River Phillip
Father: Andrew Scott, laborer, River Phillip
      Mother: Ellen/Helen Dunphy
marrriage date used: 10 Sept. 1866, Tatamagouche
Sarah married William Callahan, March 16, 1892,
   Amherst
Father: Andrew, occupation listed as carpenter
   Mother: Helen
2.  Judson Morris Scott b. 20 April 1876, River Phillip
Father: Andrew Scott, laborer, River Phillip
       Mother: ? Dunphy
marriage date used: November 1874, River Phillip

I couldn't find any mention of the family living in River Phillip on the 1871 Census.
On the 1881 Census, transcribed by Don Lewis, I found the following:
Family #90, living in River Philip
Andrew, Head, age 45 married
Ellen, Wife, age 26, married
Alexander, b. Sept. 1880
Judson, age 3
Sarah, age 8
Sophia, age 12
Susannah, age 6

Margaret Scott is not listed on the 1881 Cumberland census.

The 1891 census has living in Oxford:
Family #9 (4009)
Andrew Scott, age 61, married
Ellen, age 50, married
Patrick, age 11
Raymond, age 9

None of the other members are listed on the census.

I was not able to see the original documents for the census only the transcribed records, so it is entirely possible that some of the ages are incorrect.

I was able to find information on Margaret Jane Lunn who was married to Edward Richard Lunn.
Margaret Jane Lunn
d. June 29, 1911, 45 years old. Falmouth, NS
She was born in Westchester, Cumberland Co.
death Reg. Year 1911, Book 10, Page 133, Number 796
It doesn't state who her parents were but most of the Scott's that were born in Westchester were children of Thomas and Jane. They had a daughter named Margaret Jane who was born in 1871.

Edward Richard Lunn
married November 1911 to Alfretta Warr
He died May 1, 1930
His death certificate lists his occupation as farmer.
He had at least one child named Charles but I don't know if the mother was Margaret or Alfretta.

Check out the Nova Scotia Genealogy site on the web. It is full of lots of information and you may find more names that you can connect. I hope this information will be of some help to you.

Thanks Annapolis - You have added a few things for me to research and try to find answers.
Edward Lunn & Margaret Jane Scott had about 18 children before she died and he married Warr.  On Margarets marriage it says Andrew and MaryAnn Scott as you must have seen.  She went by Maggie.
I did find the Andrew you wrote about on his death certificate he died at 96 + and he was married to Ellen.  He would be the right age for Margaret Jane -  Maggie.  Her last child was born in 1910 in the census and no one has ever mentioned her - have been trying to find out what happened to her.
I found in the NS archives since it has been put on line that she was from River Philip. That is all I have found.  A few years ago Catherine Dickie saw one of my quests and wrote about Thomas & Jane Gillispie Scott having a Andrew for a son, but if you figure Maggie was b. in 1866 she would have to have parents a little more than twenty years previously.  One of my relatives gave me the name of Maloney I have found a John on the Family Search area fitting the description and says MaryAnn was from USA and Maloney from NF.  That gave me the idea Andrew had passed away.  Maybe they seperated.  Continues to be a mystery and I certainly appreciate your time and effort to be of help.  Does give me something to think about.    Elaine

Cathy - thanks I assume you did not mean Andrew married to Margaret Mathewson to be Margaret Jane's father.  He being of the same generation and born around 1859 and married in 1880.   Thomas & Jane Gillispie Scott would have had to have another son Andrew J. Scott.  Is half way River and River Philip the same place?  On her marriage license said Andrew J. Scott of River Philip.

I am reseraching my Scott family from Newcastle, England. Thomas Scott and Jane Etheringham came to Sydney Mines around 1855. They moved to Glace Bay and later some of the family can be found in the Cumberland Co. records.
One of their sons, Andrew, born 1858 at Sydney Mines, married Margaret Matheson of Stellarton. He was a mine manager at Springhill, and later coal inspector at Dominion. Andrew Scott died  in 1943 at  Dominion, Cape Breton.
Thomas Scott and Jane Ethringham had 10 children. I would be glad to share this information and perhaps find some of my Scott cousins.
