BUDD Family

Looking for any information possible on my fathers family from Springhill.  My name is Dan Budd and my fathers name is Arnold William Budd born in Springhill Nova Scotia January 8th 1937.  Trying to find info on Grandfather and Grandmothers family history, unfortunately both passed before I was born and never had the opportunity to know either.  Thought that looking into their roots might help me know a bit about them to pass on to my boys when the time comes.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  The names I have for grandfather and grandmother are Fred and Leona Budd, I hope that helps a little.  Thank you very much.

Hello
I hope I have found some information that would help you. If you go to
www.novascotiagenealogy.com
I think you will find your grandparents marriage in 1925 in Springhill.
There is one between Greta Leona Dauphiney and Fred Alonzo Budd.
Her death is also on this site October 17, 1938.
Two of their children's deaths are also on this site, Aubrey Budd, Oct. 28, 1925 and Nelda Irene Budd Nov. 10, 1926.
You can also work back from the marriage certificate and find their religion, parents name, etc.
It appears that his parents were Fred Budd and Bernice Milton and that her parents were John Dauphiney and Clara Brown. You will also be able to go back another generation if this is the correct family and probably find more family members.
There were four Fred Budd's listed. I think 3 would be related to you, possibly your grandfather's second marriage or great grandfather's second marriage in on the sight.
Hope this helps, I will continue to look for information for you.
Val

Hello again
Here are a few sites you may want to check.
http://automatedgenealogy.com
You can access 1901 and 1911 census of Canada easliy through this site.
1911 census
Frederick Budd b. 1882
Bernice Budd b. 1885
Fred Alonzo Budd b. 1905
Harold Alfonso Budd b. 1907
Cecil Murray Budd b. 1909
brother in law ???ton Murray Alonzo b. 1892
I think this is probably Murray Alonzo Milton

Another site to check out is
www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases
This site has access to the Soldiers of the First World War and also the 1881 census that you can search by name. If you find family members here it can be very valuable for researching.

Cheers Val

Hello again
I just checked my list of miners killed in the mines in Springhill and found an Alonzo Budd killed in the 1891 Explosion. I haven't been able to find anything else on him but I would think it possible that he would be a brother to your great grandfather as he named his children by the middle name of Alonzo. I have looked in some of my other books but nothing on Budd's. I will check the Moss diaries tomorrow and see what they have.
Alonzo Budd may show up on the 1881 census of Canada.
I also found a Walter Budd killed in Number 4 mine in 1937 but his father was George Budd so I'm not sure if there is a connection to your family.

Hello again
I have found more information for you but had to double check some of it because it became confusing. Before I list what I found I have a suggestion for you. Go to novascotiagenealogy.com and go through all the Budds for cumberland county and list them out by family because they are all related in some way. There are numerous infant mortalities expecially for Fred sr. and jr. I have traced what I think are three brothers back to John and Rhoda Budd in Westchester. The brothers would be William, George and Jacob. Your direct line would be through George.
Geroge Budd m. Mary Ripley Nov. 1863, Athol
the 1881 census lists
George Budd, age 50 Maccon which should be Maccan
Mary, age 41
George, age 16
Robert, age 14
Alonzo, age 10
Emma, age 12
Walter, age 1

Alonzo died in 1891 in the explosion, age 20
Emma married Richard Letcher and they show up on the 1901 census so you can check out her descendants that way.

another child Kate Jane was b. 14 Nov. 1876, Athol, d. ?

Jacob Budd is living with George and family on this census. He later marries Lydia Stillman who is 20 years his senior. Jacob is son of John and Rhoda.

William Budd and Deliah Ripley d. 25 March 1873, consumption
he was from Westchester, she from Maccan
married 1867 Little Forks or 29 Septe. 1866 Maccan, different dates on different birth certificates
His parents John and Rhoda
Children:
James Edward, b. 12 May 1867 Maccan
Henry, b. 1 April 1869, Westchester
Louisa J. b. 8 Sept. 1871, Westchester
Adelia May b. 30 Nov. 1872, Westchester, d. 10 June 1873 consumption

Fred Budd Sr.
m. Bernice Milton 25 Oct. 1904
Bernice d. Feb. 15, 1919 Herritt Rd. from influenza, buried Mapleton cemetery
some children:
Fred Alonzo b. 1905
Harold b. July 9, 1907
Cecil Murray b. 1909
According to the delayed registration of birth for Harold alonzo, Fred Sr. was working for the Canadian National Railway. There are also other records on file so take a look under his birth.

More info on Fred Sr.
2nd marriage 18 October 1920
to Clara Olivia Dauphinee (widow)
her parents Matthew Brown and Clara Hawkesley
Clara is the widow of John Dauphinee and is also the mother of Greta Leona Budd who married Fred Alonzo Budd. This was where the information became confusing.
Fred Alonzo Budd
m. Greta Leona Dauphiney August 31, 1925
in the home of Frederick Budd Sr.

I would love any further information that youmight have.  My mother in law was Tena Budd, daughter of Greta Leona Daughiney and Frederick Alonzo Budd.  I have just started looking for family history and found this site.

Thanks for any help you might be able to give.
