this information from
www.novascotiagenealogy.com
marriage
Ellen G. McLellan and Fred Ripley
Reg. year 1921, book 39 page 817
You can view the details of the marriage certificate on-line at this site and possibly find other family members as well.

It appears that the family lived in Hamilton Ontario so if you do a search for that city you may come up with more details.

If you go to the Canada section and post the information excluding living relatives names you may get someone who can do an obituary search for you for Frederick Cecil Ripley, Hamilton, ON. Make sure not to use names of persons who may be living as it isn't allowed on that site.

http://automated genealogy.com
1901 Canada census for Nova Scotia
NS District Cumberland Springhill (PD28) page 6 line 29 and 30
John Ripley Dec 23, 1873, age 23, should be 28
Lois ripley, Feb 25, 1869, age 32

1911 Canada Census
NS/Cumberland/ 9 Chignexto Mines Poll District
John Ripley, May 1877, age 34
Lois Ripley, Jun 1869, age 42
there are numberous people living at this address, 17 in fact of all ages, listed as sons and daughters of the above. You can view the original documents if you click on split screen. I hadn't been able to find a marriage certificate for the above under Lowther and Ripley.
I went back to Nova Scotia genealogy and looked for a marriage for Lois Lowther and found one in 1887 between Lois Lowther and John w. Seaman. Then I looked for a marriage between Lois Seaman and John Ripley and found it.
They were married May 31, 1899, book 1810, page 206, number 59
May 31, 1899, Oxford, John Ripley age 22, bachelor, miner
Mrs. Lois Seaman, age 29, widow
His parents James and Dorothy, Her parents Thomas and Letitia

When you go through the 1911 census any children born before 1899 should have surname Seaman not Ripley. that should help when you are looking at the information. I didn't post the info here as there is too much of it.

Hope all this helps you in your search for info on the family. The best information that you will find on Royce Ripley will be through his military file but these other sites will help in tracing the family tree if you are interested. Good luck with your search and if you require more info, please post and someone on the site will try and answer.

I found this site for Ontario

Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness, Ontario

www.raogk.com/ontario.htm

If you explain the situation, someone on this site may do an obituary look up for you. The other thing is to try and find a library in Hamilton and see if they have access to old newspapers and they may be able to do an obit. look up. Good luck.

Dear Karen,

Hi, my name Brenda Carlton. My mother is Grace Carlton nee Ripley who is Royce Ripley's sister. Both she and Royce's brother Fred are still alive and would have lots of details for you. I can send you some great photos of him and will ask my brother Bruce what he has. My grandparents , Fred and Ellen were devastated by Royce's death - when my brother Jeff called me last night to tell me of your search, I was thrilled to learn of your existence. I live in Vancouver, Canada and can be reached at 604 924-1403 if you would like to call. You have cousins all over the place!I can't wait to hear from you.
