Title: Bandy Lives!!
Post by RAF_Bandy on 22. Feb 2004 at 21:53

ahem....... in the world of online gaming as a pilot of an RAF Squadron that flies the WWI servers of RED BARON 3D.  Yes , he's still from the Ottawa Valley, an Ontario born and bred lad that used to take his 22 rifle out for sport on hot summer afternoons.  Now he is actively climbing the ranks of an elite Squadron of bomber and fighter pilots who duel Huns in wars and battles on a regular basis.  He can be found nightly flying in open public servers with dozens of his comrades from all over the world.  He still leaves his mark on the field of battle though he is more reknown by his Squad Mess antics.  To see the squadron and find out more,  just search the RB3D Squad: RAF209, he's on the roster.

I was looking for something else when I googled into the Bandy Papers site and was saddened to read about the death last year of Donald Jack, one of my all-time favourite authors.

I discovered "Three cheers for me" by chance 25 years ago, and remember my wife kicking me out of bed that night, because I just could not surpress the laughter and kept on snorting and making the bed shake. I was only married a few months at the time! I was an immediate Bandy fanatic. Of course I scanned the stores to find the rest of the series. Having served in the armed forces myself, I could truly appreciate the military bumbling.

I was under the impression that a TV series was made based on Bart's escapades. Could anybody let me know if this is so?

Unfortunately, I don't think one was ever made. It would make an excellent project for Masterpiece Theatre on the PBS network in the US though, I think. The only dramatisation I know of is a radio play of Three Cheers for Me, which the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation did back in the 60's. Sadly, it is unobtainable today.
