Title: The Crowe family in Nova Scotia
Post by Babs on 10. Apr 2007 at 19:30

My ancestor arrived in Canada in 1761 in Halifax aboard a sailing ship named the 'Hopewell'.  His name was William Crowe and he arrived in Canada with 8 sons.
My mother, Lillian Crowe, was born in Springhill, Nova Scotia in 1907.  I am interested in knowing more about family still living in the maritimes.  Also, our family is nearing its 250th anniversary of arrival in Canada.  Is there a huge family reunion planned by any one?
Many thanks for any information that may be available.

Dear Barbara;
  I haven't heard of any plans to hold a Crowe Reunion
I made a mistake ,James was born in 1715 not 1761,& after the 9 children should of read William Murray Crowe,
not William Henry Crowe,James did come to Halifax.in 1761.
Catherine.

Hi Cathy,

I tried that email address for Jane Currie and it bounced back to me.  Could you check the spelling, etc?  Maybe there is a letter or symbol out/missing.
Thanks.

Hi, my name is Val and I am a descendant of James Crowe. My line is the same as yours James to Aaron to George to William. William's son John and my great grandmother Mary were brother and sister. Some great books on the Crowe's are James Crowe, Northern Ireland to Nova Scotia and Thomas Miller's book, Historical and Genealogical Record of the First Settlers of Colchester County. The chapter on the Crowe's starts on page 199. A great site for information on the Crowes is Colchester County Genealogy. Most of the Crowe family still live in Colchester county but there are some in Cumberland County around Springhill and Southampton. James Crowe and his family first settled in the Windsor, Falmouth, Horton area and around 1770 moved to Onslow township. James and Nicholas settled in Portapique, Aaron and other brothers went to Onslow. My great-great-great grandfather George and his brother Aaron married 2 sisters Sarah and Rachel Staples and settled at Tatamagouche Mountain in the New Annan area where my Great-great grandfather William was born. He first married Margaret Hodge and had a son John and then married Christina Henderson and had many more children including my great grandmother Mary. She married Thomas Blenkhorn. William and Christy along with their sons George and Leander moved to Idaho around 1900.
If you would like more information or would like to contact me, my e-mail address is

Hi  I am related to the Crowe Family but not your direct line. My family starts with Richard Robert Crowe who was in the English army who faught with General Wolfe.  He was granted land in Parrsbro and from there he went to Horton and settled in North Alton. His Stepchildren stayed around Five Islands.  His sons were William B Crowe and Eyre Evans Crowe as well as Richard Robert who died young.  He married Anna (Willson) Wadman widow of Samuel Wadman.  I am trying to find any decendants of this Crowe Family    Cindy Parrish :D

My gggrandfather was Francis Neptune Wadman. Francis was supposedly born at sea leaving England for India perhaps. It is suspected that his father was a Capt Samuel Wadman, and when he died his widow married an unknown Crowe. Crowe, as a middle name, has gone down in the family several times.
Francis married Susannah Corbett, daughter of William Corbett, b 1725 and Jane Reid. They had 7 children; Sara, John Fraser, Richard Crowe, Robert, Silas H., Francis and William. They lived in and near Five Islands, NS, Canada.
There is some talk of a Wadman fighting under Gen Wolfe but that's all I know of it.
If anyone knows anything about this family I would love to hear it and to share what I know from Francis Neptune down. Francis also had a sister Mary and a brother William Arthur. William settled in PEI and married Harriet Grosvenor.
