Title: Megeney
Post by Beulah_Jane on 17. Aug 2007 at 17:47

I am looking for information on the Megeney (various spelling variations) family of Southampton and Springhill areas.  I have searched the 1881, 1901 and 1911 census and also the vital statistics from NS ARMS online. I would mainly like to find out when and from where they came to Cumberland County.  I see entries from Maccan as well - may be the same family - don't know.

Anyone have any suggestions?

James Megeney 1801-03 May 1876 ae 75 years.h/w mary Ann Black 1806-12 Nov 1880.,are both buried in the Mapleton Cemetery.
I beleive the Megeney 's came from England & I don't know when they came.I'm still looking for that data.
but there children were born by 1837 in Nova scotia.
This is all I have for now

Thanks Catherine!

I had thought that they were Irish, and Terry Punch said the name was a derivative of the name McKenna, or rather of the old Irish name of which McKenna is also a derivative.   The family are looking for a crest that they can use.
